Lancer Lunatics is a student organization created to begin the tradition for which Longwood has waited 176 years. This organization is passionate about Longwood athletics and is the catalyst for the real movement in Division I. The Lunatics is the team behind the team, understanding that our athletic teams are as good as the fans behind them.
MISSION:
This organization will support Longwood athletics teams through creating a buzz around all home events, and by attending competitions. The Lancer Lunatics organization aims to build tradition and respect by unifying the Longwood community and promoting Lancer pride.
VISION:.
Inspire spirit in the Longwood community by creating a lively atmosphere at sporting events. To create a home-field advantage for all sports with a loyal, loud, and fanatical student fan base
OBJECTIVE:
Lancer Lunatics will attend home competitions to cheer and support the athletes. The Lunatics will start chants and familiarize the general student population with a series of chants and songs that will be part of the Longwood culture. These chants and songs will be repeated at numerous sporting events, while each sport may have a specific chant of their own as well. The large population of Lancer Lunatics will serve as the cheerleaders in an effort to create a pumped atmosphere. The Lunatics will always stand in a specified section of the venue.
BENEFITS/INCENTIVES:
Along with the benefit, and honor, of being a part of the beginning of a rich tradition, Lancer Lunatics will receive prizes and incentives throughout the school year. As a member of Lancer Lunatics, students will initially receive the Lancer Lunatics Discount Card and Lancer Lunatics T-shirt to proudly show their Lancer Pride when attending sporting events.
The Executive Board:
The Executive Board will be responsible for manning the Lancer Lunatic sign-in table for the first half of each game. They will work closely with the marketing department to determine which specific games are worth more than others, and which events are worth points. The Executive Board will also be responsible for contacting the Lancer Lunatics for upcoming promotions and events, as well as planning the End of the Year Lancer Lunatic Banquet. The Board will work closely together to ensure the success of Lancer Lunatics, and to create a tradition with Longwood athletics.
The Board will receive all of the awards, along with other incentive items throughout the school year (with the exception of the gift cards). The following is a list of positions:
President
- Will work very closely with the Marketing department
- Organize and conduct board and membership meetings
- Stay up-to-date with all progress dealing with all facets of the board
- Makes final financial decisions
Vice President
- Responsible for ensuring someone from The Executive Board is at each Lancer Point game
- Assists President with financial decisions
- Oversees each position, and ensures each board member is effectively performing their duties
Secretary
- Responsible for recording all member email addresses and keeping the member email list updated throughout the year
- Records all meeting minutes and ensures each board member receives the minutes from each meeting
- Acts as liaison between The Executive Board and the members; all information will come through the secretary, and the secretary will then email the members the information the board members would like them to know
Treasurer
- Create fundraising opportunities
- Keep track of all monies raised by the organization
- Responsible for budgeting and maintaining a record of all finances that are acquired, and where the money is spent
Social Chair
- Schedule and organize Lancer Lunatic events
- Coordinate possible volunteer opportunities
- Assist in coordinating schedule for Lancer Point games
Membership Chair
- Responsible for recruiting new members
- Responsible for getting new members involved in Lancer Lunatics
- Will ensure new member email addresses are received by the Secretary
- They will work closely with the secretary to ensure members are getting the correct number of points when attending events
Each member of the board may have other duties as the year goes on. It is the Executive Board's responsibility to acknowledge these duties, and delegate them as seen fit. The success of Longwood Athletics as a Division I University lies in the hands of the traditions and atmosphere our fans create, and it starts with the leaders.
